Contact Fundamentals (6 week series)

Hannah Krafcik, will be teaching a 6-week Contact Improv Fundamental Skills Series!!

• This class is all-levels and is great for beginners, and material will be different each week.
• The Baker Building:  5511 N. Albina Ave, Portland
• Dates: Thursdays, April 24, May 1, May 8, May 15, May 22, May 29
• Time: 6pm-7pm (followed by All-Levels Contact Improv Jam 7pm-9pm)

Contact Improvisation  involves using physics to create imaginative partner dances. Here, we will dive into fundamentals of Contact Improvisation, training up athleticism, sensitivity to physical structure and open channels of communication. This offering will focus on both mechanics and artistry that supports safe and consensual practice. We will check in with one another verbally and ask questions about each other’s experiences in good faith. We will work through low, mid, and high levels and explore the spectrum of solo to ensemble dancing.

Instructor Bio:

Hannah Krafcik is a Portland-based transdisciplinary neuroqueer artist who studied dance at neighborhood studios and at university in Florida before moving to NYC, where they received a Master of Arts in Performance Studies from New York University. Hoping to pursue a career in academia or nonprofit administration, they took a break from dancing regularly for several years before entering back in through the practice of Contact Improvisation. They originally sought to retain a relationship to dance through critical writing, but nowadays they prefer more than anything to create work and teach.
