Contact Improv Dance Workshop
Event description
Contact Improvisation (CI) is a dance form that unfolds from the shared weight and touch between dancers in a play with gravity, momentum and physical communication.
This workshop is an intro to CI basics including:
- The rolling point of contact
- Giving and receiving weight
- Dynamic alignment and balance
- Falling and momentum
- Body surfing
The practise of Contact Improv skills cultivates a high degree of physical awareness and relaxation and supports safe and exhilarating dancing. It is equally accessible to trained and untrained movers.
I look forward to supporting ongoing CI classes, a local CI jam, and hosting guest teachers from the vibrant Melbourne CI community as our Albury dance improv community grows.
Things to know
CI involves a lot of partner work and floor work. Wear comfy clothing without studs, zips, tassels etc, that could create discomfort or entanglement when rolling on floor and with others. Long sleeve t-shirts, leggings, tracksuit pants and layers are good.
Bring a water bottle, an open mind and a readiness to nudge your comfort zone.
