    Event description

DIS/MIS: Adventures in the information environment

Misinformation and disinformation has been identified by the World Economic Forum as the top global risk for the next two years. In a year where almost half of the world’s population will be heading to the polls, this issue feels even more pressing as our relationship to information becomes more uncertain across government, media, journalism, public health, and climate change. What is real? What will people believe? And what are the implications of emerging technologies such as Sora?

South Australian researchers have been tackling the detection and mitigation of misinformation, disinformation, social influence, statecraft and related areas from a range of disciplines including sociology, media studies, psychology, and computer science. This event is an opportunity to hear from some of these researchers about their current work, share ideas and form new transdisciplinary collaborations.

    Speakers for this event are:

    • Dr Dave Ormrod – Director IW, Defence SA
    • Associate Professor Brad West – Associate Professor of Sociology, UniSA Justice & Society, University of South Australia
    • Dr Rachel Stephens – Senior Lecturer, School of Psychology, The University of Adelaide
    • Dr Josh Holloway – Lecturer in Government, College of Business, Government and Law, Flinders University
