Learn how to conduct great interviews and have more meaningful conversations with your hosts Lauren Taylor and Simon Winkler from Good Question.
With years of radio experience in organisations like 3RRR (Breaking & Entering), ABC and SBS, Lauren and Simon will be teaching you how to listen actively, build rapport, and ask insightful questions. This workshop is perfect for broadcasters, podcasters, and media makers who want to communicate better.Â
The morning will feature special guest, Brodie Lancaster, an acclaimed writer, critic and co-host of pop culture podcast See Also. Her work has appeared in publications including the New York Times, Vogue Australia, the Guardian and New York magazine. Brodie will be sharing her unique approach to crafting interviews and feature profiles.
What will we cover?
In this class you will:
- Learn research strategies, question formulation, and how to tailor interviews to your audience.
- Develop techniques for building rapport, active listening, and handling unexpected answers.
- Understand how to structure questions to shape compelling stories.
- Experience a mix of theory, practice activities, and discussion.
- Come away with new techniques you can apply right away.
What should I bring?
Pens will be provided, but otherwise please bring your preferred writing method like a notebook, journal, laptop or tablet. Come ready to engage, listen actively, and participate in practical exercises. Light refreshments provided.
