Event description

Join Emanuel Synagogue and The Jewish Independent to hear Sir Mick Davis and Mike Prashker from The London Initiative. Sir Mick Davis was one of the world's leading mining executives, a former CEO of the Conservative Party, and President of the UK Jewish Board of Deputies. Mike Prashker has spent years working in Israeli civil society and building bridges between Israel and Diaspora communities. A few years ago, they started asking a question that many of us have been wrestling with: What does it mean for Diaspora Jews to be genuine partners –not just supporters or critics – in Israel's future?

Out of that question came The London Initiative. They've been quietly building networks between Israelis working to strengthen democratic institutions and Diaspora leaders who want to help.

In the wake of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, Israel and Diaspora Jews have a genuine opportunity to dream again – to reconnect with the audacious vision that created Israel and imagine what comes next. This is a generative moment. Israelis are already seizing it: building coalitions and energising movements. The London Initiative is about Diaspora Jews being part of that energy – genuine partners in imagining and building the democratic, Jewish, thriving Israel we all believe is possible.

Join Rabbi Jeffrey B. Kamins OAM for this special edition of Conversations about Israel that will explore what Australian Jews can contribute to this larger effort. Not cheerleading from a distance. Not criticism without partnership. But collaboration on a dream we all share.

Following the conversation, you are invited to join us for a beautiful communal lunch, lovingly prepared by Nora's Kitchen.

If initiatives like this one are important to you, please consider making an impactful donation to Emanuel Synagogue to support our important work. We are grateful for your generosity and can’t do it without you.
