What is the format?
This is a 4 hour in-person course about Suicide.
What will you learn?
The course will teach you how to:
- identify warning signs for suicide
- confidently support a person in crisis
- help the person stay safe
- connect someone to appropriate professional help.

Develop the skills to have a conversation with someone experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours and confidently support a person in crisis.
You will learn the practical skills and acquire the knowledge required to safely have a conversation with a person who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours.
NB. This is not a postvention course and is not recommended for individuals recently bereaved by suicide.
The MHFA Conversations about Suicide course is not a therapy or a support group and it is important that people undertaking the course are feeling relatively robust when they undertake it. Specific postvention support services can be found at the beyondblue website.
This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.
About the presenter
Amanda Oliver is a qualified and experienced clinician with a broad range of expertise in the education, health and welfare sectors, both locally and internationally. She is a registered Psychotherapist and DBT clinician. Amanda works 1:1 offering individual psychotherapy and mother/daughter sessions. She also consults to workplaces assisting both employer and employee to maintain a productive and positive environment to support staff working with people affected by mental illness.
