What is Cookbook Club Naarm?

We’re a community of foodies who meet monthly to cook from a selected cookbook. Each ticket holder selects a recipe, makes it at home, and brings it along to share at our meet-up. It’s a chance to try new dishes, meet new people, and celebrate the cookbook together. This is our 14th event and we look forward to seeing you there!

Behind the Book: Rumi

Rumi: Food of Middle Eastern Appearance by Joseph Abboud is a cookbook‑memoir that blends Middle Eastern inspired recipes with personal stories from Joe's Lebanese‑Australian upbringing and his journey as a chef. It celebrates simple, soulful cooking rooted in Lebanese, Persian, and Turkish influences, while reflecting on identity, family, and the evolution of his Melbourne restaurant, Rumi.

FAQs

Can I attend without a ticket?
Unfortunately, no, this is a ticketed event. There will be a guest list and check-in at the door. Walk-ins unfortunately cannot be accommodated due to venue capacity.

Can I come alone?
Absolutely! Many attendees come solo, and it’s a great way to meet new people. We promise, it's a welcoming and friendly crowd.

How do I avoid choosing the same dish as someone else?
Use the shared recipe Sign-Up sheet (link will be in your ticket confirmation email)

How many servings should I make?
Please make the serving of the recipe as written in the book - not a double or half batch.

What if I have allergies? / Can I change the recipe?
Please DM us if you have serious allergies. All attendees are required to follow recipes exactly as written to help ensure transparency. That said, since this is a public food-sharing event, we encourage you to trust your instincts and take any necessary precautions. If you have severe allergies, please bring any preventive measures you may need, just in case.

What does my ticket pay for?
Ticket prices are set so there’s a tangible purchase and commitment to attend. The profits help us with admin, printing costs or goes to the venues, otherwise it is donated to charity. Cookbook Club is a not-for-profit initiative - our aim has always been to work with brands in ways that give back to our members, whether through discounts or free products.

Terms & Conditions

1. Community-Led Food Sharing

Cookbook Club Naarm is a community-led food-sharing gathering. All food served at the Event is homemade and prepared by individual participants, not by Cookbook Club Naarm.

Cookbook Club Naarm does not prepare, cook, store, transport, handle, supervise, inspect, test, or verify any food brought to the Event, and makes no representations or guarantees regarding the safety, quality, suitability, or hygiene of any food consumed.

2. Allergies & Dietary Requirements

You acknowledge that consuming food prepared by others carries inherent risks, including but not limited to allergic reactions, food-borne illness, contamination, or other adverse health effects.

If you have food allergies, intolerances, dietary requirements, or medical conditions, it is your sole responsibility to:

• Check ingredients directly with the person who prepared the dish

• Assess the accuracy of any allergen labelling

• Decide whether or not to consume any food

Cookbook Club Naarm does not control and cannot guarantee the accuracy or completeness of ingredient or allergen information and is not liable for any allergic reaction, illness, or injury arising from food consumption.

If you attend the Event with children, you accept and assume these risks on their behalf.

3. Food Preparation Responsibilities For Participants Bringing Food)

If you bring food to the Event, you agree that you will:

• Prepare food in a clean and sanitary environment

• Use food-safe ingredients suitable for consumption

• Label common allergens (including but not limited to nuts, dairy, gluten, eggs, soy, and seafood) to the best of your knowledge and ability

You acknowledge that Cookbook Club Naarm does not verify compliance with these guidelines and that all attendees consume shared food at their own risk.

4. Food Storage, Transport & Handling

You acknowledge that:

• You are responsible for safely storing and transporting any food you bring

• Perishable foods should be appropriately refrigerated prior to the Event and transported in a manner that minimises spoilage or contamination

Cookbook Club Naarm does not monitor or enforce food handling or temperature controls and cannot confirm whether any food consumed has complied with food safety guidelines.

5. Assumption of Risk

Attendance at the Event is voluntary and may involve known and unknown risks, including but not limited to:

• Illness or allergic reactions

• Food-borne illness

• Personal injury

• Property damage or loss

• Exposure to weather, public environments, or other attendees

By attending, you knowingly and voluntarily assume full responsibility for your health, safety, and personal property, and for that of any children in your care.

6. Release of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release and hold harmless Cookbook Club Naarm, its organisers, volunteers, collaborators, and representatives from any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, costs, or expenses arising out of or in connection with:

• Your attendance at the Event

• Consumption of any food or drink

• Failure to check ingredients or allergen information

• Acts or omissions of other attendees

This release applies whether such claims arise from negligence or otherwise, except where liability cannot be excluded under Australian law.

7. Refund Policy

Tickets are refundable up to 7 days prior to the Event date. After this time, tickets are non-refundable.

8. Acknowledgement

By purchasing a ticket or attending the Event, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms & Conditions and voluntarily accept all associated risks.
