Cooking Workshop : Improving preparedness for future food supply shocks
Description
Cooking Workshop – Food Preparedness & Resilience
Join us for a practical, hands-on cooking workshop focused on building everyday food resilience.
With rising costs and increasing risks to food supply, this session is designed to help you feel more confident, prepared, and capable in your kitchen—no matter your experience level.
This workshop will be delivered by Nutrition and Dietetics students Harrison and Lauren from the University Centre for Rural Health, who will guide participants through simple, healthy, and practical approaches to everyday cooking.
As part of the session, we’ll also explore and create sample “Food Shock Boxes,” helping us better understand, test, and refine these emergency food resources for use during times of disruption.
Saturday 30 May
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Location: Wardell Neighbourhood Centre, Rainbow Room
All welcome
During the workshop you will cook a simple, nutritious meal, learn practical food preparation and storage tips, explore ways to boost nutrition on a budget, contribute to designing and testing Food Shock Boxes, and take home recipes and useful resources.
You’ll gain skills for managing during food disruptions, learn how to cook healthy low-cost meals, build confidence in the kitchen, and better understand what makes an effective emergency food supply.
Tickets are a $5 donation to help cover supplies. Spots are limited and bookings are essential.
All ingredients and equipment are provided, a light meal will be shared together, and you’ll receive take-home recipes and resources.
