COOL AS ICE (1991) SCREENING + 90s HIP HOP DANCE PARTY

Friends, for my next backroom movie screening and dance party, I ask you to join me in bearing witness to the 1991 Vanilla Ice vehicle COOL AS ICE. I used to see this in the video store as a kid and think, "geez, that looks corny as hell". Now I've finally watched it and I can tell you, it is, but it's SO MUCH MORE. Firstly, it's shot by this super talented Polish cinematographer, and it looks absolutely GORGEOUS. The colours, the framing, the lighting, it's just absurd that this dumb Vanilla Ice movie should look so good. And then the dialouge and the stuff that happens, it just boggles the mind. It feels like it's written by an alien who's only exposure to earth people has been through watching rap videos, 80s porn and daytime soap operas. And our hero wanders through this thing just being a COMPLETE fuckwit in every scene, with the purest confidence that he's the coolest guy who ever lived. Imagine an Elvis movie, but in the early 90s, and with a star who has some sort of ANTI-CHARISMA, and it's been filmed by a genius alien and written by his cousin DONGLAR. I loved it and I couldn't stop thinking about for weeks,
So we'll have a half hour of vintage 1991 VHS trailers from 8, then we'll start the movie at 830 and roll our eyes and yell at the screen together for the next 100 mins, and then i'll get on the turntables and we'll dance to fun 90s rap records by people who are not Vanilla Ice until midnight or so.
Longplay also makes great food if you want to come early for dinner or a cocktail. But don't turn up at 8 and order dinner because then you'll miss the start of the movie and you don't want to miss a thing!
