Cool Room Day Rave for Fire Relief
Event description
Cool Room operates on the land of the Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging, and acknowledge that the struggle against colonial violence is ongoing. Sovereignty has never been ceded. This event, and all Cool Room events, have free entry for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples - just DM the page to organise.

We’re finally back and we’ve missed you so much.
It feels so exciting to be finally announcing our first Cool Room in almost two years. We’ve taken a lot of time off to reflect, decompress, and ponder; and after a few cancelled dates due to unexpected lockdowns, it feels triumphant to have a date booked in to dance with you all again at our favourite new venue, Miscellania.
Our last party was a Fire Relief Fundraiser, in the immediate aftermath of the Black Summer bushfires in early 2020. We’re throwing a day rave in support of the same cause, and to remind people that this work - care for Country, cultural burning, planning and relief for climate disaster - is ongoing, always present, and always urgent. All artists involved with the event are donating their time, and 100% of ticket proceeds are being split between Wulumbarra, a Sovereign burning initiative, and the Wuurn of Kanak landback fundraiser.
Wulumbarra is a project that Neil Morris / DRMNGNOW made us aware of that is doing community-based, Sovereign burns outside the support of state government (who fund some cultural burning work). Wulumbarra are working with young Blak folk in the area around the Goulburn Valley and bringing in cultural practitioners and folk from orgs like Firesticks to teach younger people how to do this vital work.
Wuurn of Kanak is a fundraiser led by Arika Waulu Onus and is best explained in her own words:
"This landback initiative, Wuurn Of Kanak is an exercise of sovereign strength and self determination to regenerate land and waters through native plants and bush medicine gardens, create a seed library, and nurture and protect the existing ancestor trees and cultural landscapes surrounding."
While it is not explicitly about fire-related work, we believe building resilience and spaces for Aboriginal peoples to engage in broader cultural practices, care for Country, and organise collectively, feeds directly into the same outcomes.
We’re looking forward to dancing with everyone together again. It’s so long overdue <3
