    Event description

You’re invited to a community and stakeholder forum event to learn more about the next stage of the Cooloola Great Walk ecotourism project.

    Registrations are limited.

    About the project

The Cooloola Great Walk ecotourism project is an initiative of the Queensland Government’s Ecotourism Trails program, which aims to deliver culturally and ecologically sustainable ecotourism opportunities across Queensland, including within national parks, providing substantive social and economic benefits to Traditional Owners and other regional communities.

The project is being delivered in partnership with the Traditional Owners of the area, the Kabi Kabi People.

The project has recently been referred to the Commonwealth Government for environmental impact assessment under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Act 1999 (EPBC Act) and will soon be released for formal public comment by the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment. At this event we will provide further information on the EPBC referral process, including how you will be able, should you so wish, to make a formal submission on the EPBC referral.

Community consultation will run throughout June and involve a number of community, business and stakeholder events, including a presence at existing community events.

These consultations build on previous formal public consultation undertaken by the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport in mid-2019.
