COP Simulation 2024
Event description
Do you care about our environment? Want to meet other young changemakers and take real action? If you’ are aged 12 – 20 then join us for our first ever COP simulation here in Aotearoa! Â
The Conference of the Parties (COP) is an international climate meeting held each year by the United Nations — featuring all countries that are party to the international treaty called the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).  Countries take turns hosting an annual meeting where government representatives report on progress, set goals and negotiate policy. Â
Our COP Simulation will guide you through a day in the life of a COP delegate (attendee)!  Â
Over the course of the day, you’ll simulate the COP process as government representatives, participate in committee discussions, gain a deeper understanding of climate policy, and the importance of collaboration in addressing climate change. Â
Get ready to be heard! At the end of this process, the discussions and insights from this event will turn into a series of asks that will feed into a Global Child and Youth Statement to Save the Children International. These asks will also be presented to the New Zealand delegation travelling to COP29 this year to amplify the rights and views of children and youth during this year’s climate negotiations. Â
Cost: $20 per person*.
Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are provided as part of the event.
