About this home

Experience the charm of waran ngali, a modest 71m² off-grid hempcrete home completed in 2023, nestled in a small community on North Bruny Island. Designed for thermal efficiency and minimal embodied energy, the home features 300mm thick hempcrete walls (R3.7), a north-facing skillion roof, and large double-glazed windows for passive solar gain. Its wood heater and internal hot water cylinder provide warmth, while a composting toilet and dripper-irrigated food garden support sustainable living. Built with hand-crafted character and a “living lightly” philosophy, this home offers a harmonious connection to nature and a model for sustainable, behavior-driven design.

You will need to book a ticket for a specific tour time. This is due to capacity restraints set by the homeowner to ensure the safety of all parties on the day. If you do not arrive at this time you will not be able to tour the home.

Renew is a small not for profit organisation that needs to raise money from ticket sales to cover the costs of hosting this event. In some cases the ticket revenue may also be split with the homeowner.
