Adelaide Jazz Festival - Penny Eames Band
Event description
After singing with a Motown style trio in Sydney in the final years of high school, Penny moved to Adelaide and a few years later joined the Bruce Gray All Stars. A year later Dave Dallwitz asked her to sing with his nine piece band as he was composing “The Ern Malley Suite”. In 1974 she formed her own six piece band, Penny Eames & The Blue Noteriety with Bruce Hancock on piano and husband Graham Eames, trumpet. Soon after, she became the vocalist with the well-established Campus Six. Singing in four bands, she was kept very busy during the seventies, including two nationwide tours and one overseas Australian Forces tour with Bob Barnard’s Jazz Band in 1976.
In 1982 Hal Hall established The Jazz College course at Adelaide University and asked Penny to join the staff, teaching Jazz voice. Anita Wardell was her first student.
Penny has put together some very talented young jazz musicians and a couple of her favourite well known musos for this special performance.
