CAPITAL SAMBA (Bossa Nova / Samba)

Formed in the vibrant heart of Canberra in the summer of 2023, Capital Samba is a dynamic ensemble that brings the pulsating rhythms and smooth melodies of Brazil to Australia's capital. Comprising a talented lineup of musicians with deep roots in Brazilian music and culture, Capital Samba is a celebration of Samba and Bossa Nova, interwoven with the rhythms of Afro-Brazilian heritage.

At the helm of Capital Samba is Fabricio Tocco, a gifted guitarist and singer-songwriter whose passion for Brazilian music is the driving force behind the band. He is joined by Airton Weber on bass, adding depth and groove to the rhythm section. The ensemble is further enriched by the enchanting voices of Angela Weber, Paola Vasconcelos, and Marina Cavalcanti, whose harmonies capture the essence of Brazilian soul. Vinnie Brasil doubles on cavaco and percussion, infusing each performance with authenticity and energy. The percussion section, a cornerstone of the band's sound, features Mitchell Wall, Starry Hardjadinata, and Allan Dantas, whose syncopated beats bring the infectious spirit of Carnival to life.

The band draws significant inspiration from icons such as Paulinho da Viola, Beth Carvalho, Zeca Pagodinho, Clara Nunes, Tom Jobim, and João Gilberto, translating these influences into vibrant, contemporary performances, featuring Fabricio Tocco’s own songs, that resonate with both traditionalists and new listeners alike. Capital Samba is more than just a band; it's a gathering of friends who met through various Brazilian community events in Canberra, including dance festivals, batucada groups, and jam sessions. This shared background has fostered a unique camaraderie and musical synergy that is evident in their performances, an immersive experience not to be missed.
