Asia House Briefing with Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran
Description
India’s Chief Economic Advisor to Deliver Brief at Asia House
As India and the European Union agree the “mother of all” trade deals, the 18th Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India, Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran, will deliver a private briefing at Asia House to offer insights into the strategy and policy decisions of what is now the world’s fourth-largest economy.
We project that India will grow 6.5 per cent in 2026, remaining one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies. Strong domestic demand (boosted by responsive fiscal and monetary policy) and easing inflation position the country well to be resilient in a challenging global economy.
New Delhi is doing what it can to soften the impact of 50 per cent tariffs from the United States, at the same time that other regions, like the EU – itself coming to terms with strained ties with the US – seek to make use of a stronger relationship with India.
India also agreed a US$3 billion deal with the United Arab Emirates earlier this month, agreeing to boost trade and defence ties, and it announced a £6 billion free trade agreement with the United Kingdom in July last year.
This briefing with Dr. Nageswaran is an opportunity to hear from India’s top economic advisor on the strategies driving the country’s economy, and the outlook for businesses on the ground.
The briefing will be chaired by Michael Lawrence OBE, Asia House Chief Executive.
