CHICC Expert Workshop: Enhancing Usability Through Human Factors Design

Users play a critical role in ensuring safe and usable medical devices. But how can you guarantee a seamless interaction with your solution?

Developing a high-quality and well-designed medical device that meets your user's needs requires employing formal human factors engineering methods. Human factors principles have long been applied in high-hazard industries, such as aerospace, nuclear, petrochemical, energy, and transport, effectively minimising risk and optimising patient safety. Today, Human Factors engineering is a mandatory design input requirement for most medical products worldwide.

Did you know? Up to 50% of medical device failures are attributed to design issues leading to user error. Data from the FDA indicated that 36% of medical device product recalls are initiated due to problems with medical device design.

Join us for this practical workshop aimed at empowering a safe and seamless user experience, prioritising your users' needs. Gain a comprehensive understanding of human factors and usability engineering, learn effective methods for measuring user interactions, and enhance patient safety to build a robust and seamless solution.

    Who are our speakers?

    • Carla Zampaglione, Director & Founder, Sento Solutions
    • Chris Simmons, Human Factors & Usability Engineering Lead, Planet Innovation

Together, we will explore key risks and theories and apply these insights to real-world examples, including digital health case studies and interactive exercises.

    What will you learn?

      • Develop a deep understanding of Human Factors and Usability Engineering.
      • Unpack the process for human factors and usability research.
      • Define the relevance of human factors and usability research to your specific product.
      • Apply your learnings to real-world digital health case studies

Whether it’s understanding and mitigating potential sources of risk for your medical device to build a safer device for end-users, or simply enhancing your product’s effectiveness, human factors engineering promotes correct, error-free use of technologies.

Note: Filming and Photography may be taking place at this workshop. Some of this material may be available to you following the workshop.
