CONSENSUS: Creative Workshops | Sit Down, Shutup and Watch Screen Festival

How do you want to be counted?

In 2026, Australians took part in the national Census. CONSENSUS asks a different question: how do you want to be counted?

CONSENSUS is a hands-on creative workshop presented as part of the Sit Down Shutup And Watch Screen Festival (SDSW).

Working with the SDSW creative team and guest artist CAPITAL WASTE, participants will explore identity, belonging and community through:

• Drawing and painting

• Sculpture

• Photography

• Digital media

• Animation and moving image

Participants will create their own artwork, which will then be transformed into a short animation. These individual works will be brought together into a large collaborative screen artwork.

The completed work will be screened at SDSW on Saturday 24 October 2026.

Who can take part?

Everyone is welcome. No previous arts experience is needed.

Activities can be completed individually or collaboratively, using a range of physical and digital materials.

Festival screenings

Once you have finished being creative, you can Sit Down Shutup And Watch short films by learning disabled and neurodivergent filmmakers from around the world.

Films will be shown throughout Friday and Saturday, are free and do not require a booking. Visit the website for screening times.

CONSENSUS workshop places are free, but bookings are required.
