You are invited to join us to celebrate the PERTH opening of 1 SHOT 24 – SEEING & KNOWING, the third exhibition celebrating the work of Image Makers Association Australia members, a group of Australia’s pre-eminent photographers.

In partnership with Stylecraft, images from members in different states will feature concurrently across its showrooms in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, with separate opening nights being held in each space. The setting brings the imagery alongside a stunning collection of Australian designed and manufactured and international furniture brands represented by Stylecraft on an exclusive basis.

The curatorial theme for this exhibition is Seeing & Knowing. How much do we really know from what we see? Does scrolling past thousands of images every day mean we know more? About some things, perhaps. But about many things, we know even less. Knowledge doesn't come from the surface of things - but can begin through different ways of seeing.

In Seeing & Knowing, we celebrate the more beautiful question of how we see and embrace the simple act of seeing as our primary tool for knowing.

For photographers, it is through seeing that we begin to know our world and ourselves - through observation, framing, reframing and eventually, sharing our work.

While photography‘s traditional role has fundamentally offered answers through an ‘objective’ truth, current image making practices are embedded with interesting, beautiful questions. Our compulsion to reframe is both literal and metaphorical.

This exhibition: Seeing & Knowing is our offering as part of 1 Shot 24, the annual body of work from members of the Image Makers Association Australia - a group of the most respected and esteemed photographers and image makers in Australia. It is a snapshot of what we are thinking, feeling and beginning to know at the forefront of Australian ways of seeing.
