Cultural Competency Training: Datacom Wellington
Event description
TupuToa Cultural Competency Sessions
To help prepare you and your organisation for our TupuToa tauira (students) we have our exclusive Cultural Competency workshops ready for your active engagement and participation. These introductory kanohi ki te kanohi (face to face) sessions are an essential part of your preparation for ALL our Partners.
What topics we will be covered?
- An introduction to understanding Te Ao Māori and Pacific cultural values and world views.
- How to effectively engage, connect and participate within Te Aō Māori and Pacific cultures.
- The TupuToa journey and our cultural impact to date.
- Our expectations from you as manager, mentors and buddies to our tauira
- Tips and advice when working with our tauira from a cultural perspective.
Who should attend these sessions?
The aim of our introductory workshops is to provide a beginners guide for partners supporting our TupuToa tauira. They are the key to providing an exceptional experience within your organisation. These sessions are also beneficial for anyone who has not previously attended one of our cultural competency trainings in the past.
How many staff can attend from my organisation?
Due to venue capacity and to ensure a fair distribution for participation across our entire partner movement, your organisation is entitled to two spaces for every TupuToa tauira your organisation will host.
We advise any staff directly supporting our tauira to attend these sessions to ensure the success of our program.
Is there pre-work involved?
Yes! To help prepare you for the session we have provided a pre-video of what to expect, including a pepeha template for you to complete prior to attending our workshop and waiata to learn. Pre-work will be sent once you have booked into a session.
Light refreshments including coffee and tea will be also provided.
We look forward to welcoming you into our cultural world!
