Description

Safety is not a policy. It is a presence.

Before we can witness another person's pain, hold difference without flinching, or lead in a way that includes everyone in the room, we have to become the kind of ground someone can stand on. This is a full day of becoming that ground.

Culturally Safer Presence is a somatic, trauma-informed, and culturally rooted day of learning for practitioners, leaders, educators, and anyone who holds space for other people. It moves inward to outward. We begin in the self, in humility and the body that carries our ancestors. We move into the space between people, into how we truly receive another's way of being. We end in the structural, in how we design and protect spaces that hold many ways of living, believing, and practicing, not only the ones the dominant culture calls normal.

You will leave with more than ideas. You will leave with practices in your body and one concrete change you are ready to make in a space you already hold.

What we will explore together

  • Humility as the doorway to every other skill of safety, and the difference between humility and self-erasure.

  • Epigenetic trauma and the body that remembers, how the pain of ancestors lives in the tissue and the nervous system of those who come after, and what that asks of us when we meet someone's response as "too much."

  • Bias and stereotypes are brought into the light without shame, so they can finally be worked with, and the skillset to know how.

  • Connection that is safer, and the specific aptitudes for receiving another person's way of being and doing without correcting it toward our own.

  • Cultural Safety 101, including why the word "safer" matters, and why safety is defined by the person receiving it rather than the person offering it.

  • The protection of spaces, and the real factors to consider so a room can hold varying values, sacred practices, rhythms, and identities with all peoples and their worldviews.

  • Flexibility in design, the practical skill of building spaces with many doors, so people can enter as themselves and express their own beliefs, values, and practices without asking permission.

Who this is for

Practitioners, facilitators, leaders, educators, care workers, and space-holders who want their presence to be a place of genuine safety. No prior training is required. You are asked only to arrive willing to learn and willing to be moved.

A note on the day that follows

Culturally Safer Presence is held the day before Sacred Witness for Trauma-Informed Practice. Today we become safer ground. Tomorrow, we learn to hold what stands on it. The two days are woven as one journey, and you are warmly invited to walk both. Each also stands on its own.

Testimonial:

Auroara’s Lateral Kindness training is one of the most thoughtful and impactful professional development experiences I have attended. The session was intentionally designed to build understanding from the ground up, beginning with the realities of trauma and the nervous system before guiding participants into the essential work of self-awareness, regulation, and creating safety for others.

What stood out most was Auroara’s emphasis that supporting others begins with understanding ourselves. The practical grounding techniques, discussions around recognizing our own triggers, and strategies for maintaining healthy boundaries were immediately applicable to both professional and personal relationships. The training reinforced that compassion is most effective when it is paired with presence, consent, and respect for each person’s autonomy.

I also deeply appreciated the integration of cultural competency and the acknowledgement that people experience the world through diverse histories, identities, and ways of knowing. This perspective added meaningful depth and ensured the training was inclusive, respectful, and relevant across communities.

Auroara creates an environment that is both psychologically safe and intellectually engaging. Participants leave not only with practical tools but with a deeper understanding of what it means to witness others with humility, empathy, and accountability.

I would highly recommend Auroara’s Lateral Kindness training to leaders, educators, health professionals, community organizations, and anyone seeking to foster healthier workplaces and stronger relationships. It is a transformative learning experience that equips participants with the confidence and skills to support others while also caring for themselves.
