Description

Trauma is not the domain of clinicians alone. It lives in every room where humans gather.

If your work brings you close to other people's pain, you have likely learned to stay steady by instinct. This day gives that instinct a structure.

The Sacred Witness is a live seven-hour virtual workshop for counsellors, psychotherapists, social workers, coaches, yoga and movement teachers, bodyworkers, breathwork facilitators, doulas, energy practitioners, ceremony guides, educators, peer support workers, clergy, nurses, hospice caregivers, and anyone else who holds space for another person.

What witnessing actually is

There is a difference between witnessing a person and processing them through your own lens. Every one of us carries assumptions. We are social mammals, wired to read the room and anticipate one another, and the nervous system built those shortcuts long ago to keep us safe. Bias lives in that wiring. It belongs to being human.

Noticing it is a skill you can grow. This day is where you practice it: observing your own lens, holding it with honesty, and learning to meet a person without requiring them to translate themselves into your framework first. To witness in yourself what you hope to witness in others is part of the sacred work.

What we will do together

  • Build your own pre-session and post-session checklists. You will leave with two working documents in your own words, shaped to your setting and your body, covering how you arrive before someone walks in and how you set the work down afterward. These are yours to use Monday morning.

  • Practice with real scenarios in a protected space. You will work in small breakout groups on situations drawn from the field: the disclosure you did not see coming, the person whose way of grieving does not match your training, the moment your own material gets touched, the silence you want to fill. Every scenario is written for the workshop. You will never be asked to share your own trauma history.

  • Learn to create safer spaces, rather than spaces you have declared safe. Co-created agreements, informed choice, the right to pass, the right to leave without explanation, and how to build the predictability that a nervous system actually reads as safety.

  • Practice culturally safer presence. Western approaches to healing are one set of answers to a deeply human set of questions. You will surface your own cultural defaults about how people are supposed to heal, grieve, and ask for help, and practice holding space with enough humility that no one has to explain or defend their way of being.

  • Protect yourself from burnout and compassion fatigue. Vicarious trauma is a predictable cost of sustained witnessing, and it is largely preventable. You will learn the difference between staying open and becoming porous, design a between-session reset you will actually use and build a self-care framework with real days written beside it.

By the end of the day, you will be able to

  • Read a trauma response as protection and locate yourself on the polyvagal ladder

  • Distinguish witnessing from interpreting, and name the assumptions you carry into the room

  • Demonstrate somatic grounding and a protocol for your own activation mid-session

  • Construct your own pre-session and post-session checklists

  • Respond to a disclosure without interrogating, and determine when a need exceeds your scope

  • Recognize early signs of vicarious trauma and commit to a sustainability plan with dates on it

Where this happens

This workshop is hosted inside The Healership Academy, our online community on Skool. When you register you will receive an invitation to join. The workshop runs live on Zoom, and your link, materials, and everything that comes after the live in the Academy classroom.

That means you are not simply attending a webinar and disappearing. You land somewhere, with other practitioners doing the same work.

How the day works

Roughly half the day is practice rather than lecture. The right to pass and the right to step away are part of the agreements we build together at the start, and they are real. Cameras are welcome and optional. Live captions are on. Come as you are, from wherever your body is comfortable.

This is educational and reflective professional development. It is not therapy, diagnosis, or clinical treatment.

Facilitated by Auroara Leigh, MEd

Wellness anthropologist, educator, and founder of Simply Sacred Solutions and The Healership Academy™. Auroara's work sits at the intersection of trauma-informed practice, anthropology, somatic wellness, and energy healing. Working in education and health care in cultural safety and trauma informed roles, Auroara brings her experiences to support all walks of life, whoever is helping a human.

Steady is the medicine.

Testimonial:

Auroara’s Lateral Kindness training is one of the most thoughtful and impactful professional development experiences I have attended. The session was intentionally designed to build understanding from the ground up, beginning with the realities of trauma and the nervous system before guiding participants into the essential work of self-awareness, regulation, and creating safety for others.

What stood out most was Auroara’s emphasis that supporting others begins with understanding ourselves. The practical grounding techniques, discussions around recognizing our own triggers, and strategies for maintaining healthy boundaries were immediately applicable to both professional and personal relationships. The training reinforced that compassion is most effective when it is paired with presence, consent, and respect for each person’s autonomy.

I also deeply appreciated the integration of cultural competency and the acknowledgement that people experience the world through diverse histories, identities, and ways of knowing. This perspective added meaningful depth and ensured the training was inclusive, respectful, and relevant across communities.

Auroara creates an environment that is both psychologically safe and intellectually engaging. Participants leave not only with practical tools but with a deeper understanding of what it means to witness others with humility, empathy, and accountability.

I would highly recommend Auroara’s Lateral Kindness training to leaders, educators, health professionals, community organizations, and anyone seeking to foster healthier workplaces and stronger relationships. It is a transformative learning experience that equips participants with the confidence and skills to support others while also caring for themselves.
