Event description

Join us for an enlightening exploration of soil microbiology and its indispensable role in sustaining ecosystem health. Delve into the broader significance of soil health for our wider environment and the well-being of our native species. Engage in hands-on activities designed for the entire family, emphasizing the critical importance of soil and its impact on threatened species.

Participate in discussions, ask questions, and connect with fellow soil enthusiasts to become advocates for soil conservation in our communities.

In addition to talks from soil experts, we're thrilled to feature presentations from turtle experts and community members involved in the 1 million Turtles Citizen Science project. Learn about the fascinating world of turtles and the vital role of citizen science in their conservation efforts.

Furthermore, we'll be celebrating the recipients of the Riverland Citizen Science Award for Outstanding Achievement. These awards recognize individuals and groups who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to citizen science projects in our region, making significant contributions to environmental research and conservation.

The event will also mark the official start of the 'Soil Your Undies' citizen science project. Participants will receive two pairs of cotton underwear to bury in their own yards or local green spaces. Over the course of 8 weeks, monitor the decomposition of the buried undies to contribute valuable data to our understanding of soil health and microbiology in diverse environments.

All are welcome to join us—no prior knowledge required. Let's come together to uncover the mysteries beneath our feet and celebrate the remarkable achievements of citizen scientists in our community!
