Event description

The trustees of the DJ Ross Bursary Fund warmly invite you to the annual Oration in honour of our past Headmistress, Miss Dorothy Jean Ross.

The DJ Ross Memorial Fund was established in 1983 to honour the memory of Dorothy Jean Ross, who served as the Headmistress of the School from 1939 to 1955. The fund supports a bursary for students with additional needs, allowing them to complete their secondary education. This initiative reflects DJ Ross’s commitment to providing educational opportunities for all students.

Traditionally, the DJ Ross Oration has been an annual fundraiser celebrating women who have overcome life’s challenges. However, this year brings a unique twist. Instead of focusing solely on women, the event will feature a panel of two Old Grammarians who will pay tribute to the achievements of an extraordinary collector and mentor in the field of Indigenous Australian Contemporary art. Old Grammarian, Liz Laverty (Atkins, 1954) and her late husband Colin have collected a world-class collection spanning decades, nurturing and supporting Indigenous artists. These artists often face their own challenges, making their contributions even more remarkable.

The OG panelists, Christine Collingwood (Flatman) and Alison Kelly (Fenton), are highly respected figures in the art world. They plan to present visually and engage in discussions about Indigenous art, highlighting its significance and impact.

This event is free to attend, however, donations to the DJ Ross Memorial Fund would be greatly appreciated.

Warm wishes

Merial Clark (1978), Annita Robson (Brown, 1965) and Venetia Patchett (Streeton, 1965)
