    Event description

Photographs of fungi are an important part of learning to identify fungi, and also for documenting their whereabouts.

Online platforms such as iNaturalist and the Atlas of Living Australia are great resources of images of fungi to which the public can contribute.

What are the important aspects of a mushroom to capture and how do we deal with tricky lighting and other challenges in the field?

In this highly interactive workshop, you will learn how to photograph fungi in different contexts to capture both their scientific and aesthetic contexts, as well as the use of photography in biodiversity monitoring. This event has two components in the morning we will be gathering at the Environmental Learning Facility Orange Showground. The field component will take place at the Federal Falls picnic area at Mount Canobolas.

This year, we are thrilled to welcome back Alison Pouliot, an esteemed ecologist and environmental photographer whose passion and expertise lie in the fascinating world of fungi. Alison is at the forefront of fungal conservation efforts both in Australia and internationally. Her compelling writing and stunning photography are featured across a spectrum of literature, from scholarly articles to mainstream publications.

    Additional Information:

Mycology May is a collaborative initiative between the Central Tablelands Regional Landcare Network, Central Tablelands Local Landcare and Local Land Services. Participants will receive detailed information regarding the workshop itinerary, what to bring, and how to prepare closer to the event date. Space is limited, and we encourage early registration to secure your spot in this exciting exploration of fungi.

As we will be going into the field we ask that you wear sturdy shoes, appropriate clothing and a hat for the day, you should bring a warm jacket, beanie, gloves and wet weather gear as the weather on Mount Canobolas can be quite cold, windy and wet....but the fungi love it!

    Cancellation Policy:

Life happens, and plans change. If you're unable to attend the workshop after registering, please cancel your registration at your earliest convenience. This allows us to offer your spot to someone on the waitlist and ensures that no opportunity for learning is wasted.

Embark on a fascinating journey with us and unlock the mysteries of fungi. This workshop promises to be an enlightening experience, blending science, nature, and community. We look forward to welcoming you to an adventure that redefines the way we see our world. Join us in celebrating the extraordinary and often overlooked kingdom of fungi.
