Event description

Driving Optimal Plant Performance - Understanding the Fundamentals of Operator Driven Reliability (ODR)

A Two Session Presentation

Operator Driven Reliability (ODR) is intended to achieve change management in an operator work force. The improvement sought is increased awareness of why plant fails and what operators can personally do to reduce this risk or better cope with the situation once failure occurs.

Session Outcomes

This is not a presentation about how to operate plant or undertake tasks, but more about how a person can be more effective and can better contribute to the business - equipping operators to better understand the risks in their plant as they observe the plant and its performance in their normal duties.

On completion of both sessions, participants would have:

  • Broad knowledge across the ten principles of ODR.
  • Insights into how to apply this knowledge in a their normal role.
  • Awareness of how to improve plant reliability, which will form a foundation of empirical work the person can apply.
  • An opportunity to create a continuous improvement program from which to bring ODR to life.

Actioning ODR inherently fosters mutual understanding and collaboration between Operations and Maintenance Teams.

No issues should you have missed the first one!

Session 1 - Principles of ODR re-capped
  1. Plant Care, why the plant must be kept clean and tidy, so that problems are quickly identified and can be acted on.
  2. Understanding Plant Condition, what to look for in the plant as tell tales of potential problems.
  3. Implications of Our Actions, the consequences of their actions and how these can exacerbate plant problems with wrong behaviour.
  4. Inspecting the Plant, how to better inspect their plant in a consistent and rigorous process, and act on these inspections.
  5. Problem Follow-up, how to follow up on problems which are identified, particularly to avoid these unnecessarily growing into major issues.
  6. Raising Work in the Maintenance System, how to raise work so that the maintenance and reliability teams can be immediately effective and efficient in resolving problems.
  7. Prioritising Work, working with the maintenance team, where to prioritise lean resources on the biggest problems.
  8. Operator Maintenance Activities, what tasks they should do to contribute to the overall maintenance effort.
  9. Defect Elimination, what steps are undertaken to eliminate defects completely from the operations.
  10. Accepting Plant Back into Operation, what is required in accepting plant back into service after work has been completed.

We'll be sending out Session 1 Slides with your Session 2 Summary!

Session 2 - Bringing ODR to life : Creating a CI Program

During Session 2 you will have an opportunity to create a continuous improvement program from which to bring ODR to life.
Illustrated with examples of past practical implementations, this final session promises to provide some useful takeaways and cross-industry learnings.

About SIRF Rt Masterclass

All SIRF events are designed to provide a safe environment for open discussion with peers on the topic of interest they are working on, in and around. Masterclass Events are one of SIRF's signature formats, and you must come prepared to learn! Speakers for Masterclass Events all have a deep understanding of their topic, and will engage the audience at a medium to high level with their content. Masterclasses typically start with a detailed presentation by the speaker followed by time for roundtable discussion on the topic to promote peer-to-peer learning and networking.

This event is included free in SIRF Roundtables membership!
