Lost Skills: Replace tool handles
Description
About the Lost Skills sessions
Visit the Nillumbik Repair Cafe to learn practical skills and help our community to reduce waste and transition to a circular economy. A circular economy is one that repairs, reuses and repurposes objects rather than throwing them away.
Lost Skills: Replacing tool handles
Timber handles on hammers, shovels, shears, trowels, axes and other tools wear out long before the metal does, and replacing one can save you having to buy an entire new tool.
In this session, you'll learn about:
which handles can be replaced
how to get the old one off cleanly
choosing a new handle that actually fits your tool
shaping and fitting it properly so it holds.
As always, this Lost Skills session is a beginner-friendly workshop with no experience needed.
What to bring
Bring a tool with a tired handle if you have one, and get personalised advice on how it might be fixed. Or just come to watch and learn.
Who is it for?
Lost Skills sessions are open to everyone in Nillumbik. This session is great for anyone wanting to learn a handy new skill, save money by doing their own DIY, or support a circular economy by giving objects a new lease on life.
Generously supported by the Nillumbik Shire Council Community Fund.
