It's increasingly critical for researchers to be able to use a range of media to communicate their findings, including spoken formats like radio and podcasts.

In this intensive hands-on training, you'll work with UTS media advisors and a real-life radio journalist to hone your message, polish your speaking style, and communicate concisely, clearly, and with confidence.

You'll learn how to recognise the most valuable elements of your expertise from the audience perspective, identify your key messages, and express those messages for maximum impact to make sure you make the most of your short time under the spotlight. You'll participate in a realistic radio interview with a seasoned 2ser journalist, followed by playback analysis. UTS media advisors will coach you on common pitfalls, demonstrate how to stay on message, and explain how to keep the audience both informed and engaged.

This training takes place in person in three parts:

Tuesday, 10 October, 10:30am-12:00pm: Introductory session led by UTS media advisors: overview, tips and advice, and Q&A
To be scheduled individually: Practice radio interview with 2ser journalist on a key piece of your research
Tuesday, 31 October,10:30am-12:00pm: Feedback session led by UTS media advisors: analysis, next steps, and Q&A

This workshop is for UTS HDRs who:

have passed their Stage 2 assessment
want to talk about a clearly identified piece of research they believe is of public interest
can attend all three sessions: introduction, practice interview, and feedback
