Nharangga Cultural Day 2026

The Nharangga Cultural Day is a chance to visit the Minlagawi Gum Flat Reserve and learn about Nharangga science, knowledge, skills, culture and caring for Country.

Proudly presented by Nharangga Aboriginal Progress Association and Yorke Peninsula Council, and rcommended by the Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation. Sponsors include the Northern and Yorke Landscape Board and Country Arts SA. This is a Connection Communities Event sponsored by the Department of Primary Industries and Regions under the Family and Business Support Program.

Investment occurs in this event to provide an opportunity for community to engage with Nharangga culture.

Plenty on offer, including:

• Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country

• Guided walks to learn about Nharangga banggara (Narungga Country), bush tucker, scar trees, and cultural burning 

• Panel Session focusing on the importance of Nharangga language

• Picnic shelter wall mural painting continuation - join artist Harley Hall to see the Nharangga totems come to life!

• Nharangga song and music

• Look at tools, artefacts and nets, traditional Nharangga techniques that are inspiring works today and continuing culture

• Visit the Nharangga Artists Market to purchase unique art

• Try a free food tasting with offerings from Newchurch Family Farm, Nharangga Aboriginal Cultural Tours and Aunty Daphne Rickett

• Join in with hosted activities including craft and face painting

• Learn about caring for Country

**New this year, the Panel session, artist market and activities will all be hosted in three large pavillions**

Event time: 10.30am - 2.00pm. Feel free to browse the stalls and chat to hosts.

• 10.45am Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony and Nharangga Song

• 11.40am Nharangga poetry recital

• 11.45am-12.15pm Panel Session on the main stage

• 12.30-1.00pm Guided Walk One*

• 1.30-2.00PM Guided Walk Two*

• * Guided Walks to be booked at Registration Desk. Registered attendees will receive a wristband with session and time identified.

Is the event family-friendly?

The Nharangga Minlagawi Cultural Day is a great family event. Children must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Please order tickets for all adults and children attending.

How do I ensure I am on the guided walk at the time slot I would like?

This year, to better manage numbers and timeslots, the guided walks require pre-booking. When you arrive at Minlagawi Gum Flat on the day, go to the registration desk. Here you can book into your desired guided walk(s). You will receive a wrist band that indicates your timeslot. You must have your wristband to join the guided walk.

What do I bring to the event?

• Wear long pants and sturdy shoes.

• Be Sun Smart.

• Bring a water bottle and drink water (bottled water will be available).

• Bring snacks if you'll need them, noting there will be tastings on offer.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Minlagawi Gum Flat is a great place to walk or cycle to! Enter the Reserve by walking or cycling the trail either along the Minlaton-Stansbury Road or Old Port Vincent Road.

Distance Post Office to Main Area via Old Port Vincent Road: 1.1 km

Distance Post Office to Main Area via Stansbury Road: 1.5 km

There is limited parking at the Main Area, corner of Old Port Vincent Road and Gum Flat Road, on the dirt roads at your own risk and as per road rules.

We encourage parking in the area surrounding the Minlaton Playground/Harry Butler Red Devil Memorial on North Terrace, Minlaton. It is then a short walk past the Bowling Club to connect to the scenic walking trail adjacent Old Port Vincent Road.
