Music in the Regions in partnership with Tocumwal War Memorial Hall Committee present the Penny Quartet.

Fresh from their much-praised National Tour with Musica Viva, including appearances at the Perth and Adelaide Festivals, Penny Quartet’s journey through the evolution of the string quartet is a joy to experience. Their Riverina tour programme begins with Haydn, “the father of the string quartet’’ before exploring new musical territories from Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe and Grammy Award winning contemporary composer Caroline Shaw. And finally, a tribute to Maurice Ravel, in the 150th anniversary year of his birth, with a performance of his joyful composition.

About Penny Quartet:

The Penny Quartet have gained a reputation as a driven and multifaceted voice in Australian chamber music. Founded in early 2014, the group brings a vibrant approach to their performances across the country. They have been nominated for the Freedman Fellowship award, received the John and Rosemary Macleod Travelling Fellowship, first prize at the Australian National Academy of Music Chamber Music Competition and are two-time recipients of the Melbourne Recital Centre’s Contemporary Masters Award. With diverse individual backgrounds and experiences across the globe, the group brings together years of knowledge and training to create a mature quartet sound. The Penny Quartet's repertoire is wide and varied; a love for the core quartet repertoire is intertwined with an urge to explore less charted territory.

About Music in the Regions:

Music in the Regions (MitR) is an independent touring organisation established in 2022 to connect classical musicians with regional audiences and facilitate transformative musical experiences across New South Wales. These musicians will perform in regions not traditionally visited, reinvigorating regional venues into concert venues, and fostering a vibrant, world-class New South Wales classical music industry. MitR is supported by TLE Electrical and through private philanthropy. For more information visit www.musicintheregions.com
