    Event description

Random Weave with the Racemes from the Piccabeen Palm

Learn the simple techniques that will allow you to transform natural fibres, straight from the plant, into a utilitarian basket or sculptural object.

Random weave is a really satisfying technique that can be used to give amazing results.

In this class, students will move through the different stages and skills needed to complete a simple, beautiful basket  made solely from bangalow inflorescence.

With over 28 years experience of making, exhibiting and teaching basketry and fibre art Zimmi has a wealth of knowledge on Australian natural fibre basketry.

Her teaching techniques are flexible and broad, speaking to each students individual way of learning.  Zimmi will breakdown each stage of the making process so that students can work methodological or experimentally through the the basket. Zimmi will also share her knowledge of the history of Australian basketry, terminology and ethics.

All materials and equipment will be supplied….what you will learn will allow you to go out and forage for yourselves from very easy to find materials.
