Event description

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been renewed focus on localism and the importance of building resilient and connected local communities.

Whilst the pandemic demonstrated heightened need for national action, it also revealed the power of the local and the critical role of local leaders and networks for wellbeing and cohesiveness.

Our latest Refugee Alternatives webinar will explore the role of Refugee Welcome Zones and the ways in which local residents can come together and work alongside local government to support and include refugees and people seeking asylum.

Featuring the following speakers:

  • Cr Lisa Lake, Mayor of Cumberland City Council
  • Cr Rhonda Garad, City of Greater Dandenong & Mayoral Taskforce Supporting People Seeking Asylum
  • Blaise Itabelo, Community Refugee Sponsorship Australia
  • Alison Pitt, Huon Valley Refugee Support Group
