Learn a broad set of tools to understand and support the sexual health, self-determination, and development of people you support. These tools are beneficial for medical and mental health professionals supporting people who experience intellectual and/or developmental diversity.

Over this highly interactive, three-day training participants will:

Broaden their understanding of sexuality and how it impacts behavior
Identify healthy sexual behaviors; learn how to better respond to unhealthy, unsafe, and illegal behaviors
Recognize how trauma impacts sexuality and relationships
Utilize a framework for balancing risks, choice, and decision-making while supporting someone’s healthy sexual development
Use pro-active, preventative, and person-centered strategies in response to social-sexual issues

TRAINING SCHEDULE

Wednesday-Friday (9am-4pm PT each day)

Day 1
- Opening Session
- UNIT 1 - Understanding sexuality, Puberty vs. Adolescence, the Hierarchy of Needs
Day 2
- UNIT 2 - Overview of trauma, trauma and sexuality, trauma therapies, overview of Trauma-Informed Care
- UNIT 3 - Milestones in healthy sexual development, signs of serious sexual concerns, responding to sexual incidents, trauma-informed mandatory reporting
Day 3
- UNIT 4 - Talking about sex with teams, Duty of Care vs. Dignity of Risk, Supported Decision-Making
- Closing Session
