Renowned author and geologist, Dr John Martyn will share his geological insights into one of Ku-ring-gai’s rarest urban forests - Sheldon Forest.

This magnificent Blue Gum High Forest community is one of the best examples of Ashfield Shale that explains why this forest is of such high conservation value as it transitions from Blue Gum High Forest to Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest.

This session will traverse only the upper part of the Tract where access is easy.

Meet at: Sheldon Forest, Enter via Warragal Road and meet at FOKE signs at entrance of Forest

Friends of Ku-ring-gai Environment (FOKE) is a community group dedicated to protecting and conserving the built and natural environment of the Local Government Area of Ku-ring-gai. In 2018 it initiated the Ku-ring-gai GeoRegion project with the object of making a positive contribution to conservation based in around the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

The proposed GeoRegion now embraces the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, other bushland areas, as well as the coast and estuaries located just north of the city of Sydney.

The Linnaean Society has published the review paper The Natural and Cultural History of the Ku-ring-gai GeoRegion, New South Wales
