Sourdough bread making workshops level 1 and 2:
Learn how to make delicious sourdough breads easy from your home kitchen:
This is a comprehensive workshop on learning the ins and outs of sourdough baking.
This a double header workshop day, you can book in for Level 1 to learn about baking your first sourdough loaf from scratch and/or sign up for the level 2 workshop, which delves into other sourdough breads like focaccia, baguettes and pizzas. Both workshops will have loaves baked onsite, so you'll get to see the process first hand and get to taste delicious sourdough creations. You can attend either level 1 or 2 or attend both as an option in the ticket section.
Kym has tailored this workshop to be easily applied at home to try and make sourdough baking accessible for everyone.
You will also leave with a sourdough starter, recipes and the knowledge learnt from the day to start or build onto your sourdough journey.
Sourdough bread making level 1: From starter to Loaf
9:50am to 11:30am
What you will learn:
- How to feed/care for your sourdough starter
- The basic
- Variations in flour blends
- Ways to bake a sourdough loaf in a home kitchen setting
- making your dough, stretch and folds,
- Baking equipment
Sourdough level 2: Focaccias, pizza and baguettes
12:15pm to 2pm
What you will learn:
- Variations in sourdough and different recipes
- slowferments and making doughs with a poolish
- variations in flour blends
- adding in flavours/ingredients to doughs
- baking techniques for focaccias/pizzas and baguettes
- pizza styles like Detroit, Sicillian and Neapolitan
About your host
Kym Ormond is a community educator who teaches skills in food preserving, permaculture gardening and music with councils, schools and community groups. Kym is also the co-owner of the plant nursery in Carey Gully, Nomad Nursery.
Kym's goal is to share forgotten skills that he's learnt over the years and return them from "Uncommon sense" to common sense life skills. Kym started off his career in commercial kitchens before eventually finding his feet in the soil and transitioned over to working on commercial farms, permaculture projects and plant nurseries. Kym has combined his love of gardening, sustainable living and cooking together into these food preserving courses.
