Speaking from Experience: Asking LGBTIQA+ workers in Adelaide needs to change to address workplace sexual harassment?

The Australian Human Rights Commission wants to hear from individuals who have been sexually harassed at work on what they think needs to change to make workplaces safer. The information gathered will help create resources to make workplaces safer for everyone.Â
We want to hear from you if you are an LGBTIQA+ worker and workers with diverse bodies genders and sexualities.
Individuals within these groups are often underrepresented in research and policy, yet overrepresented incidences of workplace sexual harassment.
You will receive a monetary contribution for attendance. Limited spaces are available.Â

What to expect:Â
A group workshop, facilitated by the Sex Discrimination Commissioner, to discuss three key questions:Â
- What you think an unhelpful response to workplace sexual harassment would look like.Â
- What you think a helpful response to workplace sexual harassment would look like.Â
- What you think needs to change to address workplace sexual harassment.Â
You will not be asked to share your personal experience of workplace sexual harassment. Â
An information pack will be shared with you once you register. This will include information about the project, an Agenda, and what else to expect. Â
Catering will be provided. We’ll ask for your dietary requirements when you register.Â
Before you take part, we will ask for your consent to collect information you share.  Â
Important things to rememberÂ
We will not include your name or any personal details in any of the resources to be developed.  Â
The Speaking from Experience project is not for making official complaints or resolving problems. It will give you the opportunity to share what you think needs to change to make workplaces safer. We can provide you with information about how to make a complaint, if you would like. Â
There will be no counsellors at the meeting, however, you will be provided with a list of services that you can contact for support. Â

Access:Â This building is designed for accessibility and there elevators to each floor.

Parking:Â There is one accessible car park available on request.
There is ample car parking available in two UParks located opposite the Uniting Communities building as well as another above Central Market. On street carparking in this area is not recommended as it has time limitations.
Fees and paymentÂ
Participation is unpaid. However, if you come to the in-person meeting, we will give you a $120 cash card to help with some of the costs of being part of the meeting.Â
AccessibilityÂ
The Commission has translators and interpreters available. Please indicate if you would like either to be present when you register. Â
Other ways to contribute
From March 19, you can also share your thoughts online through the Australian Human Rights Commission website. Anyone over 18 who has been sexually harassed at work can make a submission. You can write it down or audio record it. You can do this until September 2024. Â
