Storytime at Wolbach Farm

Children and caregivers are invited to Wolbach Farm for a morning of storytelling with Sudbury Valley Trustees. We’ll read the picture book, Thank You Old Oak, by Britt Crow Miller, a story about a 400-year-old oak tree that falls, and the forest creatures gather to thank it for the shelter and food it provided, celebrating the life cycle and the tree's new role as a nurse log. Illustrated by Amy Schimler-Safford, the book features detailed, mixed-media art and includes educational endnotes about forest ecosystems, tree rings, and the importance of fallen logs. The book is best for ages 6-8. The major lesson in the story teaches about ecological cycles with a focus on gratitude and the continuation of life. We'll also look at When a Tree Falls, by Kirsten Pendreigh, illustrated by Elke Boschinger, a nonfiction picture book that offers an awe-inspiring look at the forest’s life cycle. After the story, children may complete a craft project to take home. If there’s time, all are welcome to visit the Nature Nook at the farmhouse or to take a walk along the George Lewis Memorial Trail loop. After the program families are welcome to enjoy our shady picnic area next to the main parking lot, so feel free to pack a lunch or a snack.

Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
