Trauma Informed Support & Supervision: implementing the TISS model in practice - BRISBANE

The TISS (trauma-informed support & supervision) model is a practitioner-centered, systems aware scaffolded supervision framework designed for practitioners working in trauma-laden environments developed by Dr Fiona Oates. This TISS model is underpinned by the central acknowledgement that occupational trauma is an occupational inevitability for those working in trauma laden environments such as child protection, family support, educational settings, counselling, youth services, legal & justice settings, housing & homelessness and domestic & family violence. The TISS model centers the experience of occupational traumatic stress as an occupational hazard rather than an internal deficit within practitioners.

This workshop explores the TISS model including the evidence base that informed its development. Participants will be walked through a series of interactive activities including how the six trauma informed principles can be used as a framework to design an effective TISS plan. Tools are provided to assist participants to leave the session with their own completed TISS plan.

Highlights include:

• A safe non-threatening training environment where participants can engage with the material on their own terms - no role plays, no one will be called on to share - participants are invited to share what they feel comfortable with, breaks for reflection are encouraged

• The preparation of a TISS plan using the TISS model tools that is personalised and can be implemented in the workplace
