    Event description

Our VOLUNTEER FARM HELPER SESSIONS are a great way to learn valuable skills in growing your own food. Each session is supervised by one of our Green Thumb Farm team.

    About Green Thumb Farm:

We are a not-for-profit educational community farm located in Samford Valley Queensland. We educate and inspire children and adults of all abilities to grow and eat locally grown food, including wild greens and native plants. We promote composting, worming farming and a regenerative farming approach.

Volunteers are integral to the operational of the community farm. Our Farm Helpers Program is a way that the community can get involved in supporting Green Thumb Farm, and at the same time, learn valuable skills in growing organic food that you can use in your own garden!

Each morning, there are a variety of jobs that need doing at Green Thumb Farm to keep it operational. This includes weeding, planting seedlings, working in the nursery, mulching, or general maintenance.  At the start of the morning, we give our farm helpers a brief of what needs doing, and there is the opportunity to select a role based on your capabilities. We cannot guarantee that any particular roles are available each day, however, we do have a general routine at the Farm that we follow. If you have a preference for certain work please speak to one of the Green Thumb Farm Team and we will see what we can do.

    🐝🪲🌼 Commitment:

To help us with consistency and planning we kindly ask for people to make a commitment to attend on your nominated morning for at least 4 weeks. Of course we also understand that sometimes things come up and you may need to cancel a session.

After registering and providing your phone number, you will receive an invitation to join our Volunteer Whats Ap group which is what we use for our general communication.  If for any reason you cannot attend, we ask that you let us know so that we can plan accordingly.

    🐝🪲🌼 Who is it for:

No prior gardening or farm experience is necessary, but a reasonable level of physical fitness and ability is needed for most of the jobs. If in doubt, please talk to your doctor to receive a medical clearance prior to attending.

Children must be accompanied by an adult and supervised while at the farm. People with disabilities are welcome to attend with their carers.

🐝🪲🌼 Our Volunteer Farm Helper Program runs on the following days in Term 3:

    Tuesdays - 9.30am - 12pm [nursery & planting]

Wednesdays; 9.30am - 12pm [planting & farm work] [this is also our home-schooling day]
