--------------------

Help protect critically endangered Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub and Coastal Sand-Apple Bloodwood Forest bush remnants by suppressing a large Coastal Morning Glory (Ipomaea cairica) infestation along Cape Banks Rd., which runs through the golf course property.

Coastal Morning Glory is a prolific seeder which climbs into canopies and can smother diverse native regenerative ability and simplify structural habitat.

Threatened remnants here include a bush corridor intended for a burn later this year by the neighbouring NSW Golf Club. The day aims to provide a heavy hit to the vine, so there's a reduced threat of its ability to hijack the space after the NSWGC burn, as well as protecting immediately threatened remnants on St. Michael’s property. This is intended to ensure its occurrence can be better controlled and eradicated by St. Michael’s bush regenerators.

Gathered vine material will be stored in the St. Michael’s cart shed for use in the weaving segment on Monday, June 10, the King's Birthday public holiday.

Morning tea provided.

Tools and gloves provided.

Please bring:

  • Strong and secure enclosed shoes
  • Hardy long sleeves and long pants
  • Hat and sunglasses
  • Water and a mug for morning tea

Deepen your engagement with the natural landscape and your own and others’ cultural practices. Increase your knowledge of local ecosystems and diverse, creative bushland management practices. This is a good opportunity to hang out with friends, or make new ones, in a relaxed environment. All are welcome. The intensity of the work and terrain can be somewhat responsive to different physical capacities.

There is limited capacity for this weeding segment due to a restricted number of tool belts and people to supervise larger numbers. Even though it's a free event, please book your spot if you wish to attend.

Please direct any questions to Noah at 0421 404 951.
