Corinella Circuit with Westernport Views - Grade 3 (Easy/Medium)

The Waverley Bushwalking Club invites you to join them on the Corinella Circuit with Westernport Views.  This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria. 

An easy walk along the shores of Coronet Bay and surrounding farmland. Learn about the early settlement attempts for Melbourne. Excellent views of French Island, Philip Island and Westernport Bay.

DISTANCE:  This is a 13 km loop walk and will take approximately four hours to complete with breaks.

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? This walk is basically flat but involves some walking on a beach with firm sand so it is suitable for people who can keep going for 13 kilometres.

CHILDREN AND PETS:  This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home.  Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.  

AWT GRADE 3 (Easy/Medium):  We classify this walk as Easy/Medium grade  AWT Grade information. 

PACE: The pace will be slow but constant with regular rests and time to enjoy the expansive views.      

TOTAL ASCENT: The walk is pretty much flat – the total ascent gain is only 40 metres.

WALK DESCRIPTION: 

The walk starts at the southern end of Coronet Bay at the western end of Cutty Sark Road. It then walks up the beach for a couple of kilometres – you may see horses being exercised in the water. The track then leaves the sand but still follows the beach up to Settlement Point where you can learn about the early attempts at settling Melbourne and enjoy views of French Island. Off to the Jetty at Corinella Beach and along the Esplanade with a detour to an historical cairn and house. Back along the waters edge to Brick Kiln Road, then Guy Road and Anderson Parade for lunch in a park in the centre of Corinella. After lunch we follow Balcombe Road and Cuthbert Road to rejoin the track along the beach and back to the cars.

MEETING POINT: WBC has a car meeting point in Glen Waverley at Capital Reserve (83–95 capital Avenue, Glen Waverley) we then carpool to the start of the walk. It is possible to meet us at Coronet Bay car park if pre-arranged with the leader. We meet at 7:45 am at Capital Reserve.

CARPOOLING: This is done at Capital Reserve, however visitors cars are typically not used so you would need to join another car in the pool. There will be a $20 charge per carpool passenger which is reimbursed to the driver for petrol and other car costs. Please bring $20 in cash if you would like to participate.

PHONE SIGNAL: There should be good phone coverage on this walk.

TOILETS: In Corinella at the start and end of the walk and another toilet in the park at lunch. Otherwise it will be trees and bushes.
