Cornflowers and Butterflies

Join us this MND Global Awareness Day for a morning of connection, remembrance, and support.

We’ll come together to honour everyone affected by Motor Neurone Disease — those living with it, those we’ve lost, and the loved ones who stand beside them.

As part of the morning, we’ll plant cornflowers — the international symbol of hope for MND. Each flower represents a person, a memory, or a message of support. It’s a quiet but meaningful way to show we care and that no one faces this journey alone.

You’ll also be invited to take part in a butterfly release — a simple and beautiful way to honour a loved one, show support for someone still living with MND, or stand with the wider MND community. Butterflies will be available for purchase, with the option to have your own individual release box for a personal tribute.

The event will be held in the peaceful surrounds of Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens and will include live acoustic music, space to reflect, and time to connect with others. You're welcome to bring a picnic and enjoy the gardens after the ceremony.

MND Queensland’s Annual General Meeting will follow the event, and all guests are welcome to stay and hear about the work being done across the state to support people with MND.

Whether you're planting a flower, releasing a butterfly, or simply being there — your presence helps raise awareness and builds a stronger, more supportive community.
