Dear Friends, Across Greater Sydney, more than 26,500 people every day receive fresh, rescued bread through Gift of Bread. For many, it is a simple but vital source of nourishment, stability, and dignity. This work is only possible because our vans are on the road every day, collecting surplus bread from bakeries and delivering it to charities and community organisations across our city. But right now, that essential work is under serious pressure. Rising fuel prices are placing real strain on our ability to keep collecting and delivering bread across Greater Sydney. With unpredictable diesel prices, our transport costs have more than doubled since the beginning of the year. Every day, our vans rescue surplus bread and deliver it to charities and community organisations. But keeping them on the road now depends on something very simple—fuel. Unlike many of the broader challenges we face such as inflation, rising expenses, and operational costs, this issue is immediate and practical: If the vans don’t have fuel, they don’t move. If they don’t move, the bread doesn’t reach people.
