Event description

“A madman is someone who arrives at a fancy dress party dressed in the Emperor’s new clothes.”

Set in Melbourne in 1971, university student Lewis accepts a job on a government scheme to direct a play for a group of patients at a mental institution. One of the patients, Roy, insists they do Mozart's opera Così Fan Tutte, despite it being in Italian and no one able to sing opera! Lewis' troubles don't end there, with the patients including an obsessive compulsive, a violent person with anger issues, a recovering addict, and a pyromaniac. Played out against the backdrop of the political unrest of the Vietnam War, Lewis discovers the true meaning of love, fidelity, and belonging.

First produced in 1992, Così has become one of the most successful Australian plays produced in the last decade. A terrific play about madness, illusion, sanity…and theatre.

WARNING: This production contains mature themes and is recommended for audiences aged 16 years and over.
