Cosmos Ensemble present… Coltrane Suite
Event description
Cosmos Ensemble present... The Coltrane Suite. Heavily inspired by Alice Coltrane's 1971 performance at Carnegie Hall, Cosmos Ensemble will present a two-set showing of improvised music. Each set will range from the intense tones of the avant-garde to the smooth modal grooves found within spiritual jazz.
Cosmos Ensemble is Peyo Pappadopoulos’ outlet for exploring the many dimensions of improvised music. In his Honours year of Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium, Pianist and Composer, Peyo Pappadopoulos is heavily influenced by the playing of Alice Coltrane, Geri Allen and Andrew Hill.
Cosmos Ensemble aims to continue building on the sounds of modal improvisation within the 70s, exploring fusion experimentations and ambient soundscapes. The group's exploration aim to push the boundaries of improvised music.
Expanding to a sextet, the larger ensemble setting will allow for greater opportunities, more communication, clearly showcasing the art of improvisation.
