Call of the Mild 2026
Description
Call of the Mild is an annual bike camping trip for women and non-binary riders.
Distance
There are two distance options:
60ish miles each way
30ish miles each way
Route to Martindale
You can do either distance either day.
Note: if there's construction or new developments, we'll share updated routes with people that are signed up to ride with us. However, they won't be super different.
Terrain
We ride through a park in South Austin with dirt trails. These trails are not anything crazy, but you can of course walk if you want to. Otherwise, the route is all paved.
Gear
It's possible we'll have someone drive to the campsite, but if not, you'll need to carry your own camping gear on your bike. Lots of folks make do with a set of panniers, or they strap stuff to a rear rack... there's a lot of right answers.
Food
It's always a good idea to pack snacks, water, and electrolytes for the ride itself, especially since our journey could take about 8 hours each way (long distance option). We will be stopping at gas stations on the route, and we will also go to the HEB in Lockhart so you can buy food for the campsite itself. Also, we're near enough to civilization that you can order pizza or something from the campsite.
No-bike Options
Want to just hang out with us at the campsite? It's always a nice time in Martindale! We'll be taking a dip in the river if it's not too cold, and then we'll spend the evening in their little downtown area.
Cost
If you want to camp overnight, you must pay $10.00 to cover your share of the campsite fee. Otherwise, it doesn't cost anything to RSVP.
