Australia’s local government sector has been at the forefront of responding to climate change for decades. As one of the first sectors to understand how geographical regions can manage climate risk, councils championed the application of risk and vulnerability assessments - techniques that have since been adopted by other industries, such as building and infrastructure.

In recent years, however, identifying and assessing climate risk has become more complex. We know that we are no longer solely measuring the physical danger of a changing climate, but also the financial, reputational and legal issues and opportunities associated with the transition a low-carbon economy.

Please join us as we explore emerging physical and transitional risks for local government, as well as:

Best-practice measuring of emerging physical and transitional risk
Embedding climate risk into governance and decision-making
Strategies to manage and adapt to future scenarios

Our speakers will discuss the above issues from the perspectives of practitioners and governments around Australia:

Nina Keath: Senior Strategic Officer, City of Onkaparinga, South Australia
Tiffany Correggia: Senior Project Officer Climate Preparedness, NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, New South Wales
Tim Watson: Senior Sustainability Consultant, Edge Environment, New South Wales
