Counterparts- Live Contemporary Dance
Event description
From producer Mara Glass comes a new contemporary dance endeavour. Counterparts brings together five choreographers: from Wollongong, Sydney, and Brisbane, to present four new works in one exciting show.
Show length: approximately 1hr, no interval.
Featuring our new free ticket initiative!
How this works:
If you are someone looking to support this show, but maybe you are unable to attend in person, you can purchase a ticket, which can be used by someone else.
If you are someone who would like to attend, but the cost of a ticket is a limiting factor in any way, if someone has purchased a free ticket, you can simply grab one. Free. No funny business.
I will do my best to update how many free tickets are available per show as the tickets start to get purchased.
Counterparts features:
Oblique
From Brisbane duo Bryna Glass and Chloe Jarvela:
Oblique is a contemporary dance work that explores the progression of queer discovery and what it means for queer people to make their own path in a world that often does not allow for them to follow the pre-existing paths society has laid out.
Homage to a Spiralling Mind
By Fiona Larkin:
A slide down the ladder of a spiralling mind, unsettled, disorganised; each train of thought interrupts the next, competing for attention and refusing to be unheard. Homage to a Spiralling Mind (working title), embodies the experience of an anxious mind left clutching at the rungs of presence and planning.
Things Our Mother Gave Us
By Mara Glass in collaboration with the mask work of Ian Steen:
This work looks at the passing of generational trauma from mothers to their daughters through the metaphor of artwork being trapped in an exhibition. Watch as the artwork comes to life, realises the unceasing nature of their predicament, and tries to do something about it. Will the cycle be broken, or are we doomed to unwittingly repeat the mistakes of our ancestors?
Dissonance
By Tayla Martin
Dissonance explores peer pressure and trends within society, diving into themes of fitting in, insecurity, and shame.
