In this workshop, you’ll uncover the theory behind Countertechnique and get hands-on with the Countertechnique Toolbox — a dynamic set of tools designed to support both body and mind. These tools help dancers stay present, process information, and turn thought into movement with clarity and ease.
Going deeper than what an open class can offer — this workshop is your chance to further understand, embody, and expand your Countertechnique practice.
Countertechnique is a contemporary dance training that provides tools to deal with the demanding dance practice of the 21st century. It is a movement system to help the dancer think about the dancing body and focuses on the process of incorporating information into action. Within a clear structure of exercises, the Countertechnique class thoroughly prepares the body for rehearsal and performance, enabling dancers to move bigger, more fluidly and more spatially, while becoming stronger and more flexible.
Countertechnique was developed by Anouk van Dijk throughout her twenty-five year career as a dancer, choreographer and teacher. Over the last eighteen years, the knowledge and experience she gained – in constant dialogue with her dancers – was gradually transformed into a detailed theoretical system and a teaching method, which now together form the Countertechnique system.
This workshop is aimed at Pre-Professional and Professional Contemporary Dancers.

LEADING FACILITATORS
Na-Ye Kim (Senior Teacher, Seoul)
Na-ye Kim is a South Korean dance artist, educator, and scholar based in Seoul. A Senior Countertechnique® Teacher, she became Korea’s first certified teacher in 2021 after beginning her study of the method in 2019. Na-ye trained in classical ballet at The Royal Ballet School and holds degrees from Durham University (UK), New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts (USA), and Seoul National University (PhD). Her extensive career includes performing with Mikhail Baryshnikov’s Hell’s Kitchen Dance and leading American choreographers. Currently the Chair and Associate Professor of Contemporary Dance at Sungkyunkwan University, she integrates Countertechnique® into the university’s curriculum and directs her project company, NKMC (Na-ye Kim Movement Collective), advancing her choreographic and research practice.
Madeline Harms (Teacher, Sydney)
Madeline Harms is an Australian contemporary dance artist, educator, and Countertechnique® teacher with over a decade of international experience. She has performed and toured worldwide with acclaimed companies including Tanzmainz (Staatstheater Mainz, Germany), Sydney Dance Company, and Stephanie Lake Company. Madeline has collaborated on creations with choreographers such as Sharon Eyal (S-E-D), Rafaele Giovanola (CocoonDance), Guy Nader & Maria Campos (GN|MC), Roy Assaf, Guy Weizman & Roni Haver (Club Guy & Roni), Rafael Bonachela, and Tra Mi Dinh. Certified in Countertechnique® since 2021, she teaches regularly across Europe and Australia, sharing her passion for embodied awareness and artistic growth. Her practice embodies curiosity, collaboration, and a commitment to process-driven play.
SUPPORTING TEACHER
Chimene Steele-Prior (Teacher, Naarm)
Chimene is a Certified Counter Technique Teacher and is passionate about facilitating dancers’ connection to joy and trust in their own bodies. Chimene is a Naarm based performer, choreographer and teacher. She has worked with an array of independent artists and companies, including Project Animo, Australasian Dance Collective, Lewis Major Projects, Stephanie Lake Company, M Collective, Requadt and Rosenberg (UK), Reckless Sleepers (UK), Lucas Jervies, Tim Harbour, Omer Backley-Astrachan, Alice Topp, Cass Mortimer-Eipper, Izzac Thomas, Kristina Chan, Jayden Hicks and Lauren Langlois. Chimene worked extensively with Opera Australia between 2011-2021, touring Australia and China. Chimene’s choreographic work has been presented at the NGA, the NGV, the Lawler Theatre, Dancehouse, Melbourne Fringe Festival Hub and the Winter in Banyule Festival. Chimene has made work on students at VCA, Transit Dance, NICA, St Michaels Grammar and Albert Park College. In 2025, Chimene was engaged by Melbourne Opera as choreographer for Samson and Delilah.
