    Counting on Success: How accounting and finance can lead to different career pathways


    Understanding the exciting future career pathways available to you when contemplating study options allows you to make informed decisions. Accounting and finance are more in demand than ever.

    If you are a Y10 student or above considering a major in accounting or finance, a parent or a teacher, we invite you to join us to learn more about the landscape of the accounting and finance professions and the many different career pathways it can lead to. Join us to hear from a panel of young and experienced, to help you understand the world of possibilities and what your future may hold.

    Shailan Patel
    Education Manager, MYOB


    Shailan is passionate about helping students catapult from education into meaningful employment. Shailan is a graduate from the University of Bristol, England where he was born and raised, before moving to New Zealand in 2010. His career has been diverse, starting off in recruitment in London, in sales and advertising for three of NZ’s largest media companies, before joining MYOB in 2015 to manage their education channel across Australia and NZ.

    He loves how education is full of promise, ambition, and opportunity, and works with young people to help find success whatever their career path. Shailan is also on the New Zealand Association of Graduate Employers Board

    Kaycee Intic
    Bachelor of Business in Accounting student and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand student representative.


    Kaycee is completing her final paper towards a Bachelor of Business degree, majoring in accounting, and minoring in money and banking.

    Kaycee is a CA ANZ Student Representative and has recently completed an internship at Ernst & Young. In 2024, Kaycee will return as a graduate in Ernst & Young’s assurance – audit service line.

    Jack Wang
    Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences in Finance and Computer Science, and 2023 President, AUT Investment Club.


    Jack is currently studying a Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Computer Science and information science, majoring in finance and computer science.

    Jack has been a student at AUT since July 2022 and is the current President of the AUT Investment Club and Vice-President of the AUT Economics Society. Outside of university life, Jack enjoys fitness and MMA.

    Hannah Gillespie
    Head of Strategy, Craigs Investment Partners


    Hannah Gillespie is Head of Strategy at Craigs Investment Partners (a wealth management and investment advisory firm). Hannah is responsible for leading and managing Craigs Investment Partners’ business strategy. Hannah has extensive advisory, strategic and transaction experience. Prior to joining Craigs Investment Partners in 2019, Hannah spent four years in Singapore working in the finance industry, and four years in PwC’s corporate finance team in Auckland.

    Hannah graduated from Massey University with a Bachelor of Business Studies (Finance) and the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry).

    Peter Prema
    Director, Onboard Accounting & Advisory

    Alumni Peter Prema, is a Chartered Accountant with 10 years of experience specializing in growing businesses. As the director of Onboard Accounting & Advisory, Peter is passionate about helping individuals and companies achieve their personal and business goals.

    With a Bachelor of Business qualification, Peter believes that also being a CA offers exciting opportunities for global career growth.
